Congratulations on becoming the proud parent of a new kitten! The following is our recommendation for the health and medical care for your kitten's first six months.
The first visit to the veterinarian should include all of the following and the appropriate treatments depending on your kitten's age:
- Initial Physical Exam: verify gender, detect birth defects, discuss care, behavior, diet, check for external parasites (ear mites, ringworm, fleas)
- Feline Viral Testing: Feline AIDS/Feline Leukemia
- Fecal Microscopic Exam: bring a stool sample from the litter box to rule out intestinal parasites (tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms, coccidia, etc) which are common among kittens.
- Specific deworming treatment, if indicated.
Schedule Spay or Neuter Surgery when the kitten is 5 months old or weighs 4 pounds
